With the 2019/20 season finally at an end and just a short break before the Chelsea players return for pre-season training, attentions will soon switch to the prospects for the new campaign at Stamford Bridge.

Frank Lampard’s group will be bolstered in 2020/21 by the arrival of two new players, with Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech having already been signed from RB Leipzig and Ajax respectively. While neither has yet played in blue for the first time, the duo have been training at Cobham and plenty has been said about their potential impact in SW6.

Here, we take a look at the best quotes about our new signings, starting with the man dubbed ‘Turbo Timo’…

‘He’s a very dangerous player. I think he has some similar qualities to me and some of the attacking guys we have. He’s obviously very quick and very good in front of goal. He seems like a humble guy. He wants to come in and work.’ – Christian Pulisic

‘He has huge talent. He’s had a fantastic season this year but before that as well. I am very excited to have him playing for Chelsea. The talent I think Timo has along with the work ethic, his personality and humility really shone through to me when speaking to him so I’m very excited to have him in all senses.’ – Frank Lampard

‘I would say he’s a hybrid between a striker and a winger. He’s happiest when he can cut in from the left, onto his right foot, and run at people, or into spaces. His game has really improved in recent months. He’s become better in the smaller spaces and better linking up with the midfielders, not just being the guy that touches the ball once in the box.’ – Raphael Honigstein, German football pundit

‘It’s always very difficult to get one of the top strikers in Europe so I’m pleased that he’s coming to Chelsea. He’s very good at running into space and he’s quick, pacey and he can go in behind one-vs-one. He’s intelligent.

'I think he enjoys it more when he plays as the main striker but also he’s been playing a lot coming in off the left so there are good options for Chelsea.’ – Gus Poyet, former Chelsea midfielder

‘Timo is a very interesting player because he always has a quota. He scores goals and assists them. At Chelsea, he will certainly not do it any differently.’ – Hansi Flick, Bayern Munich manager

‘Like everyone, I’m very excited that he’s chosen Chelsea and I’m looking forward to working with him. I’ve known him since he was 17 and his development has just been “wow”.

'He’s a really big threat to defenders. In terms of attacking the defensive line, he’s similar to Jamie Vardy. He has a lot of pace and if the defenders make a mistake and lose the ball, then he goes.’ – Toni Rudiger

‘Everyone at City knows about Timo Werner. Many of my team-mates have asked what kind of guy he is. He deserves respect.’ – Ilkay Gundogan, Man City midfielder and Germany team-mate
