Ike Ugbo has signed a new contract and today joined Belgian side Cercle Brugge for the 2020/21 campaign.

The striker, 21, has previously spent time on loan in League One, the Championship and, most recently, the Dutch second division, where he notched 13 goals in 28 games for Roda JC last term.

Ugbo has been on the books at Chelsea since the age of nine and proved himself to be a prolific goalscorer in the junior teams, playing a leading role up front as he helped fire our Under-18s to FA Youth Cup glory in successive seasons in 2016 and 2017.

His first loan move was to the Championship three summers ago at the age of just 18 before further spells at MK Dons and Scunthorpe United. The Lewisham-born youngster also featured in Frank Lampard’s first pre-season game in charge in Dublin last year before signing for Eerste Divisie side Roda.

Cercle Brugge are managed by Paul Clement, formerly a coach in the Chelsea Academy and assistant to Carlo Ancelotti at Stamford Bridge before going on to take charge at Derby County, Swansea City and Reading.

They are two games into the new season and currently sit ninth in the Jupiler League. Ugbo’s new Chelsea contract commits him to the club until at least 2022.
