Record runs

Our club record 16-game unbeaten run in Europe (excluding shoot-outs) ended at home to Valencia in the Champions League group stage.

A new club record 10-game unbeaten run on the road in Europe came to an end at Bayern Munich in the Champions League round of 16 second leg.

The team achieved seven successive wins on the road in all competitions whilst in the top flight, a new club record, matching the seven achieved in 1988/89 in Division Two under Bobby Campbell.

Chelsea scored three or more goals in four successive top-flight league matches on the road for the first time in our history: Norwich 3-2, Wolves 5-2, Southampton 4-1, Burnley 4-2.

The kids are alright

Against Grimsby in the Carabao Cup the Blues named four teenagers in the starting line-up for the first time since 1980, and in the same game used six teenagers for the first time in our history.

At 20 years and 311 days Mason Mount became the youngest Chelsea player to score for England since Jimmy Greaves in November 1960 against Wales (20 years, 277 days).

Mason Mount became the first Chelsea homegrown to make his first team debut and complete 50 appearances in the same season (away to Liverpool).

Reece James (19 years 332 days) became Chelsea’s youngest ever Champions League goalscorer when he equalised in our 4-4 draw with Ajax in the group stage.

Watford at home was the first time ever Chelsea have brought on four subs in a match that were all graduates of our Academy - Tammy Abraham, Callum Hudson-Odoi, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Billy Gilmour.

Fikayo Tomori has become the 50th player to feature for England in a senior international as a Chelsea player after making his debut as an 84th minute substitute in their 4-0 win in Kosovo.

Tammy Abraham scored 12 away goals in all competitions – the most from a Chelsea player since Didier Drogba (18) in 2009/10.

Abraham is the first homegrown to scorer 15 league goals in a top-flight season since Tommy Langley (15) in 1978/79 (Clive Walker netted 16 in 1981/82 in Division Two). The last homegrowns to manage 18 in all competitions over a top-flight season were Peter Osgood with 31 and John Hollins 18 - both in 1971/72.

Miscellaneous stats and facts

Reece James started for the first time at home to Crystal Palace in November, ending Cesar Azpilicueta’s run of 73 successive starts in the competition.

In the match at home to Bournemouth, Azpilicueta became the first Spanish player to reach 250 Premier League appearances for Chelsea.

Stamford Bridge became the first Premier League stadium to witness 100 Premier League penalties (78 Chelsea, 22 opposition) when Jorginho scored against Brighton.

The Blues conceded 79 goals in all competitions in the 2019/20 season, an average of 1.44 per game – the worst ratio in a season since the 1990/91 campaign (1.64).

The team suffered eight home losses in all competitions for the first time since 1985/86 (also eight).

The 105-day season break resulting from the Covid-19 lockdown exceeded the Blues’ previous record 28-day gap between games of February–March 1986.

Willian was the first Chelsea player in our history to score a penalty in three consecutive league games.

Our game at Villa Park on 21 June - our 5,136th competitive fixture - was the first to be staged completely behind closed doors. Manchester City on 25 June was the first game held at Stamford Bridge without any supporters.

The game at Aston Villa was the first in the league in which the Blues used more than three substitutes.

Chelsea never lost a game in which the now-departed Pedro scored. He hit 43 goals in 39 games, resulting in 37 wins and two draws.

Chelsea did not end a round of fixtures outside the top four from 6 October to 26 July.

Willian became the first Blues player to have scored a competitive goal in each month of the calendar year.

Willy Caballero (38y 308d) became the oldest player and Callum Hudson-Odoi (19y 268d) the youngest to feature for Chelsea in an FA Cup final.

Cesar Azpilicueta ended the season as our second-highest overseas appearance-maker and Willian our sixth-highest overseas scorer.

We reached 200 games against Arsenal (the most of any opposition), and 100 against Burnley.
