In our look at the latest Chelsea-related news stories from the media, there is reaction to the Blues’ latest summer signing while another potential transfer target appears unlikely to leave his current club.

Messi is a Chelsea follower

The Sun has stoked up speculation about a possible move to Stamford Bridge by Lionel Messi by revealing the Argentinian star is a follower of Chelsea’s Twitter account.

The news of the 33-year-old possibly looking for a way out of Barcelona after he submitted his transfer request to the club on Tuesday has given rise to rumours of where he might be heading to next.

And the paper has suggested Chelsea could be one of his potential destinations after finding out we were one of the few football teams he follows on Twitter.

‘Eagle-eyed social media users believe they may have narrowed down his potential new employers to just four teams. And it is all on the fact that the quartet are the only clubs he follows on Twitter,’ states the report.

‘Barcelona are one, with his boyhood team back in Argentina, Newell’s Old Boys, another.

‘However, supporters of both Man City and Chelsea are starting to believe the impossible could become reality after discovering their sides are also followed by the icon.’

Burley sees Chilwell as good addition

Former Chelsea midfielder Craig Burley has told ESPN FC that the acquisition of Ben Chilwell should work out well for the Blues.

Reacting to the England international’s move from Leicester City, the former Blue explained how Chilwell would be a great fit at Stamford Bridge.

‘I think potentially he could be a great addition,’ said Burley.

‘I think the potential is there and he’s got the experience now. He can run the whole side if necessary, he’s very, very fast and he has a lot of Premier League and international experience.

‘It’s clearly a position Chelsea have been looking at and while Chelsea fans might be thinking “he didn’t look great when we played them towards the end of the season”, I don’t think that’s the Ben Chilwell that long-term they will get.’

White likely to stay at Brighton

While Chilwell has joined Chelsea, another top defender named Ben appears unlikely to move to west London this summer.

Highly rated centre-back Ben White has been linked with a number of top Premier League clubs including the Blues after his successful loan spell at Leeds United last season but The Sun reports he will remain at Brighton.

‘Brighton have been desperate to keep the player and other teams have been put off by the high transfer fee,’ states the report.

‘Leeds have been desperate for White, 22, to return next season but their top offer of £25million was turned down. Brighton were keen not to sell White to the Yorkshire side as they feel Marcelo Bielsa’s team will be a rival in the Premier League in terms of being in a similar league position.

‘Brighton would have been prepared to sell White for between £25m and £30m as that would have been an offer they could not refuse. But Liverpool, along with Chelsea and Manchester United who also expressed an interest, have not been keen to meet those demands.
