Gallagher and Guehi, who were together on loan at Swansea in the second half of last season (Guehi has returned to South Wales for 2020/21) both started the 6-0 win, a victory which has the Young Lions in a comfortable position at the top of their qualification group for the European UI21 Championships.

Guehi played the full game with Hudson-Odoi introduced on 62 minutes. Reece James withdrew from the squad this week due to injury.

England U21s have maximum points from five games and have played a game less than closest rivals Austria who are three points behind. The two teams meet in Austria on Tuesday.

At senior international level on Friday, Jorginho remained on the bench for Italy’s opening Nations League match at home to Bosnia and Heregovina, a 1-1 draw.

Armando Broja, who has been called into the senior Albania squad for the first time, was not involved in their 2-0 win in Belarus.
