To mark becoming Chelsea Women’s latest centurion, the 22-year-old reflects on her time at the club by speaking to the official Chelsea website. The Scotland international, who joined the Blues from Glasgow City in 2016, recently extended her contract to keep her at the club for a further three years.

Upon reaching the significant milestone, Cuthbert said: ‘It felt a bit bittersweet reaching the milestone against United because we drew that game.

‘It’s an incredible feeling having represented this club a hundred times competitively and it's a big honour for me. I want to keep pushing, I love the club and I want to keep pushing on and working hard to get many more appearances.’

Having joined the club at the young age of 18, Cuthbert is humbled to reach the 100-mark.

‘I could never have imagined I’d make 100 appearances because that achievement is up there with the legends like Claire Rafferty, Katie Chapman, Ji, Fran and Eni,’ she said.

‘It is a really big honour, it’s been nearly four years since I’ve been here so if you divide a hundred by that, it’s quite a lot of games per year. I have played a lot of games but I’m loving every minute and it’s nice to feel valued to be able to play that many games.’

When it comes to her personal highlights, she picks out her favourite moments and recalls her first game in Blue.

‘I have a few great memories so far,’ Cuthbert confirmed. ‘The FA Cup at Wembley in 2018 was incredible, my family was there which was lovely and also winning 2-1 away at Arsenal, when I scored that brace. I ran over to the fans and started celebrating, that was an amazing feeling and it kind of showed how close I feel towards the fans – they are really, really important to us.

‘And lastly probably the Continental Cup final, just because our backs were against the wall, we were defending at all costs. We weren’t playing well, nobody thought we were going to win and grinding out a result and scoring in the last minute against Arsenal in a final was a fantastic feeling.

‘My first game was against Yeovil at Staines so we’ve come a long way since then. I scored on my debut and I remember the fans, it just hit differently, it was my first pro contract and I was so buzzing.’

The Chelsea No.22, who still has many years of her career ahead of her, has established herself as one of the senior members of Emma Hayes’ squad having played a part in all five pieces of silverware the Blues have clinched since she joined almost four years ago.

‘I think I’ve changed a lot, I had a lot of growing up to do,’ Cuthbert admitted while speaking about her development at the club. ‘I came down at just 18 years old and I have grown a lot as a player, but physically my fitness levels have grown and I had to get up to a certain level to compete in this squad.

‘There are so many good players so to make 100 appearances in just under four years, I think you have to have a certain fitness level to do that. The technical and tactical details that Emma [Hayes] has gone into with me is really important because it’s taken my game to the next level, but at the same time I have so much more to give.

‘I wouldn’t be at this club if I didn’t have more to give, I’ve got more to show and there’s definitely more in the tank for me.’

The Blues return to Kingsmeadow on Sunday for our first home game of the 2020/21 Women’s Super League season. We welcome Bristol City for a 12.30pm kick-off in a game that is being played behind closed doors and Cuthbert shares her excitement in returning to our KT1 home.

‘I’m excited to be back at my second home, it’s maybe a bit of a shame without the fans making an atmosphere but we know they will be supporting from home.

‘We’re really excited to put on a show for the fans and I’m looking forward to being back in our home dressing room.

‘Every game is a tough game in the league now. You have to win the battle, we know we’re in for a game and know that it’s not going to be easy because Bristol are probably going to bank up and make it difficult for us.

‘That’s what a lot of teams are likely to do because they see the quality that we have, they probably don’t know what line-up we are going to play either because it’s so unpredictable, because neither do us players!

‘We are going to have to move the ball quickly and be clinical as well because that’s something we need to work on from the Man Utd game. It’s definitely a work in progress but we are very close to it all coming together.'.
