Ben Chilwell is back in the England squad, joining two Chelsea team-mates Tammy Abraham and Mason Mount in Gareth Southgate’s selection.

Abraham and Mount were in the Three Lions squad last month for UEFA Nations League fixtures against Iceland and Denmark but due to injury, Chilwell last played for England back in November 2019, when the then Leicester full-back was in the starting 11 for Euro 2020 qualifying victories against Montenegro and Kosovo. The 23-year-old has 11 caps to his name and made his Chelsea debut last week against Barnsley and followed it up with his first start on Tuesday at Tottenham.

England’s forthcoming fixtures are against Wales at Wembley next Thursday, a friendly international, before two more home games which are both UEFA Nations League matches, against Belgium on Sunday 11 and versus Denmark on Wednesday 14.

Southgate’s side are currently second in their group in this competition, with four points from two matches (a win in Iceland and a draw in Denmark), behind Belgium who have won both their games so far. Denmark have one point with Iceland bringing up their rear in the four-team group on zero.

Wales have announced their squad for the England game next week, plus their own Nations League games in Dublin against the Republic of Ireland and away to Bulgaria in Sofia. Ryan Giggs has included Ethan Ampadu who is now on loan at Sheffield United.

The Welsh have a perfect record from their two UEFA Nations League games so far, having defeated Finland and Bulgaria by the only goal of the game each time.

Andreas Christensen is in the Denmark squad for their games in England’s group and Michy Batshuayi, on loan at Crystal Palace, is in the Belgian selection.
