Chelsea have never met Krasnodar in European competition. They will be the 55th different side we have met in the Champions League and the fourth from Russia.

We have a good record against Russian teams, winning five of the six encounters.

We won home and away against CSKA Moscow in the 2004/05 Champions League group stage, and won both games at the same stage against Spartak Moscow in the 2010/11.

The most recent meeting was against Rubin Kazan in the Europa League quarter-final on our way to winning the trophy in 2013. We went through 5-4 on aggregate despite losing the second leg away 3-2.

Our defeat in Munich against Bayern in last season’s round of 16 ended our 10-game unbeaten club record in away European matches since losing 0-3 to Barcelona in the Champions League round of 16 in 2018.

We have won our Champions League group 11 times, although we finished runners-up in the last two, in 2017/18 and 2019/20.

Frank Lampard’s side are unbeaten in six Champions League group matches since our home defeat to Valencia on matchday one last season (three wins, three draws).

Chelsea are looking to keep a clean sheet in consecutive Champions League matches for the first time since November/December 2015 against Maccabi Tel Aviv and Porto.

The last time we played in Russia in 2013, both Frank Lampard and Cesar Azpilicueta started the match.

Timo Werner has been directly involved in nine goals in his last 12 Champions League appearances, all for RB Leipzig between November 2017 and March 2020 (seven goals, two assists). All seven of Timo’s Champions League goals have come away from home.

Werner is hoping to become the third German player to score for Chelsea in the Champions League, after Michael Ballack (four goals) and Andre Schurrle (two).

Last season Krasnodar finished third in the Russian Premier League for the second season in succession.

Krasnodar were only formed 12 years ago, and this is only their seventh season in UEFA competition, and first in the Champions League group stage.

They have featured in Europe every year since making their debut in the 2014/15 Europa League. In 2019/20, they were eliminated by Olympiacos in the Champions League play-offs and went on to finish third in their Europa League section behind Basel and Getafe, picking up nine points from their six matches.

In this season's play-off, Krasnodar won both legs of their tie against Greek club PAOK 2- 1, with Remy Cabella scoring the winner in each game.

Krasnodar are hoping for a fourth successive home win in European competition.

Prior to this season, only Tonny Vilhena and Ogor Smolnikov had played in the group stages of the Champions League.

Krasnodar have never lost to an English team. Their only encounter was against Everton in the 2014/15 Europa League group stage. They won 1-0 at Goodison and drew 1-1 at home. It was Everton’s only defeat in the group as they finished top with Krasnodar third.

Krasnodar lost 1-3 at home to Spartak Moscow on Saturday with their goal coming from Leon Sabua in the second half. Victor Moses, who’s on loan from Chelsea, scored his first goal for Spartak who moved to the top of the Russian Premier League.

Krasnodar have picked up 18 points from their first 12 league games of 2020/21 and currently stand eighth, nine points behind leaders Spartak.
