Bryan Fiabema is one of six young players to have been nominated for October’s Premier League 2 Player of the Month award.

The 17-year-old striker has four goals from just 164 minutes of PL2 football so far this season, totalling four appearances for Andy Myers's side, who are currently third in the table.

He opened his goalscoring account for the development squad in a 3-0 win over Arsenal, finding the net just 30 minutes after being introduced at Kingsmeadow for his debut at Under-23 level.

His red-hot form continued in our game against Derby County at Cobham where the Norwegian forward struck twice in 20 minutes to complete the 3-2 comeback in an all-action clash. His most recent goal for the development squad came away at Liverpool from the spot, the youngster making no mistake from 12 yards after Chelsea were awarded a second-half penalty in the game, which ended in defeat.

In his first full season at the club, Fiabema is joined on the shortlist by Isaac Fletcher (Middlesbrough), Joe Hugill (Man United), Benjamin Mbunga-Kimpioka (Sunderland), Cole Palmer (Man City) and Rhys Williams (Liverpool).

The shortlist was chosen by the Premier League Football Development panel after PL2 clubs' coaches nominated the best performances by opposing players in each league fixture in October. The winner, also chosen by the panel, will be announced in due course.

In other Academy news, development squad defender Henry Lawrence has put pen-to-paper on a new deal at the club.

The 19-year-old has been a mainstay for the development squad for the past 18 months, featured for Frank Lampard’s senior side in the pre-season friendly against Reading, and was named on the bench for last season’s Champions League tie away at Bayern Munich.

An England Under-20 international, Lawrence made 30 Academy appearances last term and scored four goals, one being for the youth team in their run to the FA Youth Cup final and the remaining three for the development squad in Premier League 2. With seven appearances for Myers's men already this term, the young defender has made a solid start to the new campaign.

Fellow Academy players Prince Adegoke and Edwin Andersson have this week both signed their first professional contacts with the club. The pair have also committed themselves to the Blues until the summer of 2023.

Adegoke is currently undergoing rehab after an operation on his meniscus while Andersson last featured for Brand’s side in the Under-17 Premier League Cup win over Reading. The Swede will be in contention to appear for the Under-18s on Saturday morning when they take on Leicester City at Cobham. Kick-off is at 12 noon and we will have updates on our official @chelseafc Twitter account and a report on this website following full-time.
