As we mark 75 years since the end of the Second World War, The Royal British Legion is honouring the service and sacrifice of our Armed Forces who came together to defend our way of life then, but also those who continue to do so today.

This year we will once again wear special-edition shirts embroidered with a poppy. All shirts will then be signed and donated to the Legion for auction after the game.

Chelsea FC Women will also wear the poppy on their shirts for tomorrow’s Women’s Super League fixture against Everton.

We will be honouring those who have lost their lives in conflict across the world with a minute's silence prior to kick-off in both our men’s and women’s games.

Frank Lampard said: ‘We will be observing a minute’s silence before kick-off against Sheffield United on Saturday, as this is our nearest home game to Remembrance Day.

‘We are proud to support the work being done by the Royal British Legion to help those who have served in the Armed Forces, and to pay our respects to those who have lost their lives in war. We will remember them.’

Captain Cesar Azpilicueta added: ‘Before today’s game we will observe a minute’s silence and we will also be wearing the poppy on our shirts, as we did last week at Burnley.

‘We are proud to support the British Legion’s Poppy Appeal and the vital work they do.

‘It is important that we never forget those who have lost their lives in conflict.’

The Legion is the nation’s biggest Armed Forces charity, providing care and support for all members of the British Armed Forces, past and present, and their families.

The British charity has long been associated with the First World War, providing support for its veterans and taking the poppy symbol from the flower which grew on the battlefields of Ypres, scene of some of the fiercest fighting, and immortalised in the poem ‘In Flanders Fields’.

The Legion’s work is more vital than ever this year as the charity supports communities through additional hardships due to the Covid-19 pandemic, from those struggling with social isolation, financial difficulties and unemployment, to others who have lost loved ones or facing the threat of homelessness.
