Souness praises flying full-backs

After our 4-1 win against Sheffield United, Sky Sports pundit Graeme Souness has claimed Chelsea have ‘won the lottery’ with full-backs Ben Chilwell and Reece James.

Chilwell scored the equaliser for the Blues when he got on the end of Hakim Ziyech’s cross and Souness believes his transfer has made James’ performances this season go unnoticed.

‘This happens all the time when you buy a player for a lot of money, all the focus is on him,’ said Souness. ‘In James, he’s a top player.’

‘I’ve not talked about his strength, his pace, his delivery, and in terms of defending he looks like he’s got that already. So you can only see him getting better and better.’

Both full-backs have received call-ups for England and will be looking to continue showing the chemistry they have had on display with the Blues on international duty.

Talking on Sky Sports and as reported in the Metro, Souness described James as ‘the finished article’.

‘The full-back in the modern game isn’t a defender first and foremost, it’s someone who can do a bit of defending but gets up the pitch into the attacking third and can deliver on it.

‘I think James is all of that. I think he’s got absolutely everything in his game. So for Chelsea, it looks like they’ve won the lottery in the full-back positions.’

Terry in for the Derby job

According to the Daily Mail, another Blues legend could be in the top job at Derby County as the Rams find themselves at the bottom of the Championship with six points.

John Terry has spent the last three seasons working as an assistant coach under Dean Smith at Aston Villa. They both won the play-off final to come up to the Premier League for the 2019/20 season.

Even after a relegation scrap towards the end of last season Terry and Smith have come back and done a good job in starting the season well which included big wins against Liverpool and Arsenal, meaning Terry’s work would attract certain clubs.

Villa are currently fifth in the league and Terry has been responsible for the emergence of the strong centre-back pairing of England international Tyrone Mings and Ezri Konsa.

If a job offer is open, Smith has vowed to let Terry consider it.

‘I have no doubt JT will be a manager. When and where, I don’t know,’ Smith said.

‘I’m happy he is part of our coaching team, he’s been very good. The amount of detail he has given the defenders has helped them improve individually and collectively.’

Terry would be following Frank Lampard’s footsteps as another Chelsea legend to take over at Derby.

Lampard finished in the top six and made it to the play-off final, where his Derby lost to Villa.

Eto'o in stable condition after car crash

Samuel Eto’o was involved in a car crash in Cameroon on Sunday morning.

According to goal.com, Eto’o was returning from a wedding when his car collided with a bus. Pictures emerged of the car Eto’o was driving after the accident and it's good news that there weren’t any other casualties.

The former Chelsea striker is now recovering from his head injuries in hospital and is in a stable condition.

The 39-year-old transferred to Chelsea from Anzhi Makhachkala on a free transfer in the 2013/14 season. In that year he scored 12 goals and got seven assists for Chelsea in 35 games.

Eto’o was regarded as one of the best strikers in Europe at Chelsea, Inter Milan and Barcelona. He won the Champions League four times, the Africa Cup of Nations twice and also has a gold medal from the Sydney Olympics in 2000.

Eto’o now works as a special advisor to the African football federation CAF’s president after announcing his retirement following a 22-year playing career.
