Eriksson has committed her long-term future to Chelsea by signing a new deal that keeps her at the club until 2023.

The 27-year-old, who has already clinched five pieces of silverware since joining in 2017, has targeted more success with her Blues team, as she explains in the interview below…

What’s been your standout moment since joining Chelsea?

‘I feel like there is one moment every year almost. The first year was definitely winning the FA Cup at Wembley. It was my first FA Cup experience, playing in front of 45,000 fans, winning the game and playing well.

‘That was an amazing experience and it definitely made me hungry for more. It made me really feel that these are the places I want to be at and these are the things I want to win.

‘The second year was when we reached the semi-final in the Champions League. We almost knocked out Lyon and we felt we was close to the top and last year I would say it was lifting the Continental Cup right before Covid happened.’

You have a great relationship with Emma Hayes. How has that helped you in your role as captain?

‘We have a really close relationship and we discuss weekly how we can improve our environment.

‘That is really one of my essences of my captaincy. To drive our standards all the time, to improve us, to reach new levels.

‘We don’t want to get complacent in where we are. She encourages me to take responsibility and ownership all the time and it helps me to develop as a person.’

Can you explain what it felt like to win the Women’s Super League and Continental League Cup in your first season as captain?

‘It was a special year. We started on something really good and I think we’ve continued on that path this season – I’m really excited to see where we can go.’

Emma has added even more world-class players this season. How are they settling in and how have they improved as a squad?

‘I think the new players always bring something extra. This time it has been professionalism, determination and hard work.

‘They are also really good characters and people as well and they drive the standards that we always talk about.

‘In training, in our everyday work, in our games as well, I think we have proven that the quality of the squad is amazing.

‘It doesn’t matter who we put out there and who we end with when we are playing games, the quality shines through the whole squad and also on the training pitch, the level of competition is amazing to witness.’

What do you hope to achieve in the next few years?

‘The ultimate goal is always winning trophies, to add to the list of trophies that Chelsea already have as a club. That is the ultimate goal.

‘It’s also about developing as a player, playing with amazing teammates and experiencing amazing things together with them and the staff.’
