Gilmour named in the Chelsea squad for Sevilla clash while Lampard reports no fresh injury concerns

Frank Lampard has confirmed that he has a fully fit squad to choose from ahead of our Champions League clash with Sevilla and states that Billy Gilmour will be included in the Chelsea party that travels to Spain.

The Blues have already qualified for the knockout stages of the Champions League and with two fixtures remaining, starting tomorrow evening in Andalusia, our head coach has confirmed that he is likely to rotate his starting line-up.

‘We are fully fit and ready to go,’ said Lampard, at his pre-match press conference.

‘Yes, we will look at making changes to the side and I’ll have to do that for different reasons. Some players have been playing a lot and it’s been a hectic schedule and will be a busy period over the next few weeks.

‘On the other side of that, the players who haven’t been playing as much recently have been training really well. We have players who are knocking on the door to play. I don’t expect a drop in level but there will be the chance for them to feature. We’ve already qualified from the group but we won’t be taking this game lightly.’

One player that will hope to feature is Billy Gilmour, who Lampard has confirmed is fully fit now after recovering from a long injury layoff.

The young Scot is included in the Chelsea squad travelling to Spain today and our head coach spoke in glowing terms of Gilmour, the work he’s put in to get back to full fitness and his future plans for the midfielder.

‘Billy is fit now,’ added Frank. ‘He could probably do with some more match minutes, which are hard to get behind the scenes in Covid times due to the way the bubbles are set up here at Cobham.

‘He’s in the squad tomorrow and it would be nice if he can get some minutes, in particular over these next two Champions League games.

‘He has a great attitude and will compete with the rest of the midfielders. I see him coming back at the level just before he got injured, he made a great impact and there will be so much more to come from him at this club, just because of the sheer talent he has.

‘Billy has a great attitude, he trains really well and he’s looking spot-on, so he comes into the squad to compete with the other players in that midfield area.’
