City dominant in the final third

Man City had twice as many shots as us, 18 to nine, and three times as many on target, six to two.

78 per cent of their efforts were inside the box, in contrast to 56 per cent of ours.

Kevin De Bruyne registered a game-high five efforts. Hakim Ziyech and Mateo Kovacic had two each for us.

It was the second time we had conceded three goals in the first half of a Premier League game at Stamford Bridge, after doing so against Burnley in August 2017.

While we had a 54.6 per cent share of possession overall, it was Man City’s midfielder Rodrigo who spent the most time in possession (7.4 per cent) and helped dictate play. He also won a game-high five tackles. N’Golo Kante and Bernardo Silva won four each.

Overall, the visitors were successful with 18 tackles to our 11. They also won two-thirds of the aerial challenges contested, and their back four made 13 clearances to our five.

Second half step-up

There was a noticeable improvement from the Blues after the break, and the stats show in the second half we had more possession, more shots, more successful dribbles, more tackles and a higher pass completion rate than we managed in the first half.

The substitutes contributed to that, particularly Callum Hudson-Odoi. As well as his late consolation, the winger had a 95 per cent pass completion rate during his time on the pitch and made two key passes. That figure was bettered only by two other England youngsters, Mason Mount (three) and Phil Foden (four).

Our winger who played the full 90 minutes, Christian Pulisic, registered nine successful take-ons, three times as many as anyone else.
