Chelsea Women can confirm young midfielder Charlotte Fleming has left Kingsmeadow and heads to FA Championship side Leicester.

Fleming has been a Blue since joining the Chelsea Academy eight years ago at the age of 10, going on to captain the U18 team. She became the third Academy product to graduate to the Women’s first team, signing her first professional contract ahead of the 20/21 season. The number 31, who made two starts under Emma Hayes, was given her debut against Championship side Lewes in November 2019 and also played Charlton Athletic in January last year. A calf injury sustained against Charlton limited her time on the pitch since.

Fleming joins a Leicester side who currently sit at the top of the FA Women’s Championship, the second tier, having won eight of their last 11 games.

Emma Hayes commented on the move: ‘Charlotte needs to be playing in a first team to gain further senior experience and aid her development.

‘Leicester are in great form at the top of the Championship and we have no doubt Charlotte will be a great asset to the team. We wish her all the best in the next step in her career.’

Chelsea would like to thank Charlotte for her service during her time with the club and wish her every success for the future.
