Chelsea’s Under-19s will face FC Salzburg in the round of 64 of this year’s European competition.

Andy Myers’ team will host the Austrian youth side in early March with full details of the fixture to be announced in due course.

It will be the first meeting between the two teams in the competition and Salzburg will travel to England as current domestic champions in Austria, one of last season's competition semi-finalists, and 2016/17 Youth League winners.

With a changed format, the UEFA Youth League returns at the round of 64 stage, with single-legged knockout ties to decide which teams progress to the round of 32.

The round of 64 and round of 32 will compromise two paths as indicated below:

UEFA Champions League path

The 32 clubs playing in the UEFA Champions League path will contest each other.

Domestic Champions path

The 32 clubs playing the domestic Champions path will contest each other and the round of 64 and round of 32 pairings are determined by means of an open draw.

For the purpose of the draw, the UEFA administration may form groups and may include geographical conditions so that teams do not have to travel long distances. For the UEFA Champions League path, the UEFA administration also ensures that clubs from the same association cannot be drawn against each other.

Round of 16

The eight winners of the UEFA Champions League Path round of 32 play against the eight winners of the domestic champions path round of 32, for which the pairings are determined by the means of a draw.

Quarter-finals and semi-finals

The quarter-finals and semi-finals pairings are determined by means of a draw.

In all games, if the scores are tied at the end of normal playing time, no extra time will be played and kicks from the penalty mark will determine the winning team.

Player eligibility

A player is eligible for inclusion on the 2020/21 UEFA Youth League player list if he was born on or after January 1 2002. Additionally, a maximum of five club-trained Under-20 players (born on or after January 2001) can be included in the overall list of 40 players available for the competition, provided that certain criteria are fulfilled.

For each match in the competition, each participating club must enter a shortlist of 20 player prior to a matchday. Regulations allow a maximum of five substitutes listed on each team’s match sheet to take part in a game. Each team however, must make their substitutions on no more than three separate occasions during a match.
