Upamecano links intensified by Tuchel arrival

Chelsea have reportedly been given a big boost in the race to sign Dayot Upamecano from RB Leipzig.

According to German paper BILD the centre-back will be attracted to a move due to certain pieces falling in his favour at Stamford Bridge.

The report states that the arrival of new head coach Thomas Tuchel could improve Chelsea’s chances of signing the most wanted young centre-back in Europe.

The new boss is said to be an admirer of the Frenchman and is fluent in French. Blues attacker Timo Werner was also a team-mate of the 22-year-old in Germany.

We have played with a centre-back pairing of Thiago Silva and Kurt Zouma, who are both French-speaking, and saw our side go 17 games unbeaten earlier in the season. The French centre-back would be seen as a long-term option.

Upamecano signed a new deal with Leipzig last season but his release clause sits at £40 million.

Oscar would like to finish career at Chelsea

Former Chelsea midfielder Oscar has revealed his desire to end his career at Stamford Bridge.

In an interview with the Guardian, the Brazilian reminisced on his time at the Blues and how he’d love to return one day.

‘To end my career, I would like to return to Chelsea,’ the 29-year-old said. ‘I built a beautiful story there and went to the Premier League very young.’

Oscar signed for the Blues in 2012 and was given the famous number 11 shirt that was previously worn by Didier Drogba and he reveals how the Ivorian asked for his number back when he returned in 2014.

‘Drogba is a superstitious guy,’ he said. ‘He came to talk to me and gave me many compliments, saying I was the right player for the number eight shirt.

‘Of course, I would have made the change even if he just asked but that kind of confidence helped me.’

The Brazilian spent five years at Stamford Bridge and won four trophies with us. He clinched two Premier League titles, a League Cup and the Europa League.

‘Fans did not trust Brazilian players that much,’ he said. ‘I helped change that.

‘I’ll be a bit older when I try this move again but, as I’m playing very well, with good stats, I feel there is still a place for me at Chelsea.’

Berhalter excited for Pulisic’s reunion with Tuchel

US national team coach Gregg Berhalter believes Christian Pulisic will be familiar with Thomas Tuchel’s methods as the German took charge of Chelsea this week.

The former Paris Saint-Germain coach worked with the American at Borussia Dortmund and gave him his Bundesliga debut at 17.

‘For Pulisic, I think the benefit is, that he knows him very well and that’s always important,’ the US national team coach told goal.com. ‘He’s coming in with a really good understanding of what Pulisic can do and his skillset, and I think that’s important.’

The 22-year-old recently made his 50th appearance for the Blues and has been involved in 23 goals since his arrival.

Berhalter believes Pulisic’s previous experience with the German will eliminate the acclimatisation period.

‘He has seen Pulisic develop and improve over his time at Dortmund and, for Christian, it’s the familiarity with how he coaches, his coaching staff and his communication style.

‘That’s all helpful. There’s not that uncomfortable period when you’re getting to know the coach.’
