Media Watch: Blues are eyeing Marquinhos, Klopp sees Chelsea squad as a ‘present’ and Ferdinand praises Hudson-Odoi

In our look at the latest Chelsea-related news stories from the media, the Blues are reportedly keen on signing Marquinhos and Jurgen Klopp is expecting big things from Thomas Tuchel.

Brazilian on Blues’ radar

Chelsea are reportedly looking to bring in Brazilian defender Marquinhos to strengthen Thomas Tuchel’s Blues side.

According to Eurosport, Marquinhos was first linked with Chelsea in 2015 and has continued to be monitored at Stamford Bridge.

The report states that the arrival of Tuchel at Chelsea may help in acquiring the Brazilian.
Marquinhos was Tuchel’s third-most used player at Paris Saint-Germain and the 47-year-old described him as the ‘heart and the soul’ of the team.

Even though Marquinhos had previously spoken about retiring in Paris, the thought of joining up with the manager that brought him to such high levels is reportedly appealing.

The Brazilian is a defender but Tuchel’s use of him in midfield saw him become one of the most influential players at Paris Saint-Germain.

Klopp expecting Tuchel to take England by storm

Jurgen Klopp believes Chelsea have all the tools to allow Thomas Tuchel to be a success in England.

The two Germans know each other very well as they both managed at Mainz and Borussia Dortmund with Tuchel replacing the Liverpool manager at the latter.

‘For Thomas Tuchel it’s great,’ the Reds boss said in his latest press conference. ‘Unfortunately, he’s a really good manager.

‘I have known him for a long time and respect him a lot. This Chelsea squad is a present, I’m pretty sure Tuchel sees it like that. They will be good.’

When asked whether he has given the former Paris Saint-Germain coach any advice Klopp stressed there was no need to do so.

‘I will give Tuchel no advice in public,’ he said. ‘I’m not sure when we play them next, and I don’t have his number so I couldn’t text him.’

Ferdinand impressed by Chelsea youngsters

Rio Ferdinand was left impressed by Callum Hudson-Odoi after his performance in our 0-0 draw against Wolverhampton Wanderers last night.

The 20-year-old was deployed as a wing-back and the former Manchester United defender believed he was a big part of the threat that Chelsea posed.

‘It was the best I’ve seen Hudson-Odoi to be honest with you,’ he said on BT Sport. ‘There wasn’t much more until Christian Pulisic and Mason Mount came on the pitch and they looked a little bit more threatening.’

The winger currently has five goals and three assists this season and will look to be an influential piece of the new head coach’s plans.

‘He was the most creative and he was the outlet. Late on in the game, he defended very well.’
