The form

The Blues are full of confidence having been undefeated this term with 10 wins and two draws in the league. We were last in action on Sunday against Tottenham Hotspur and this London derby ended in a 4-0 win as Melanie Leupolz notched a brace, while Sam Kerr and Pernille Harder also got their names on the scoresheet.

Hayes’ side reached the semi-final of the Conti Cup by defeating rivals Manchester City 4-2 in extra-time. Leupolz broke the deadlock on the stroke of half-time at the Academy Stadium but City levelled the scoring shortly after the break after a defensive mix-up. City then netted inside the final 10 minutes, however there was a moment of magic as substitute Niamh Charles scored a sublime volley to take us to extra-time.

Guro Reiten put us ahead early into the additional 30, when she slid home a cross at the back post, and just before the interval, Sophie Ingle unleashed an unbelievable long-range left-footed strike to send us through.

Opponents West Ham are sat in 10th place in league standings, with their last game being on Sunday versus Manchester City. The match resulted in a 4-0 loss for the Hammers.

They reached the semi-final of the league cup by beating Championship outfit Durham 3-0 at home which was new manager Oli Harder’s first win since taking over from Matt Beard.

Emily van Egmond and Katerina Svitkova put the Hammers ahead in the first-half before Hawa Cissoko headed home a third late on.

Chelsea v West Ham head-to-head record

The Blues have met the Irons six times, having won five and drawn one, with our last meeting in December 2020.

Chelsea welcomed West Ham to our KT1 home at the beginning of December with Sam Kerr netting her first Blues hat-trick in a 3-2 victory in front of our fans for the first time since February 2020. The Australian forward opened the scoring on 15 minutes before adding two second-half goals.

The time before that, we recorded an emphatic 8-0 triumph in the league which was exactly one year ago today. We were comfortably ahead at the break thanks to an early half-volley from Maren Mjelde, a Bethany England finish and a Sophie Ingle header. The fourth came soon after the interval through Erin Cuthbert and two more goals came in the space of five minutes either side of 60 minutes when England and Mjelde added their second with simple finishes. Late goals from former Blues Ramona Bachmann and Emily Murphy added the finishing touches to a relentless performance.

The away league match that year finished 3-1 thanks to Ingle, Ji and Drew Spence’s second-half goals.

We also faced them in the Conti Cup last season and secured a 2-0 win at home with goals from England and Reiten after the break.

The Blues won our first ever meeting against West Ham at Rush Green when Bachmann notched an outstanding brace and the home fixture ended in a frustrating 1-1 draw. But it was it was a special day as we marked Spence’s 10th year as a Chelsea player.
