Chelsea keeping tabs on Hofmann

The Blues have been linked with Borussia Monchengladbach’s Jonas Hofmann.

According to a report in BILD, the midfielder is just one of the players who are set to leave after the departure of their coach Marco Rose to Borussia Dortmund.

Hofmann previously worked under our head coach Thomas Tuchel during his days at Dortmund and has since established himself as an influential player in the Bundesliga.

According to the report, the 28-year-old will cost around £14 million. It is claimed there has been contact between the midfielder and the club and it is rumoured that Hofmann is interested in a new challenge.

The midfielder was also linked to Tottenham Hotspur in 2019 but opted to sign a contract extension with his German club.

Hofmann started the season well and was rewarded with a call-up by German national team coach Joachim Low. He currently has six goals and 10 assists this season.

Tomori on Milan derby

Fikayo Tomori says making his AC Milan debut against Inter Milan was a dream come true.

The Chelsea loanee has taken Serie A by storm and has featured regularly for the Milan side since his arrival.

In an interview with Sky Sports, the centre-back opened up on making his debut in one of the biggest fixtures in world football.

‘Making my debut in the Milan derby wasn’t something I thought would happen,’ Tomori said. ‘Leading up to the game, I thought about all the times you see AC Milan against Inter Milan on the TV.

‘In England, it’s always been a big game, and to make my debut in that game at the San Siro, it was a dream come true.’

In that Coppa Italia game, Inter Milan came out on top after a Christian Eriksen free-kick in the 97th minute sealed the win for former Blues manager Antonio Conte.

However, this weekend, Tomori will be looking to get revenge over his rivals as they face each other in a mouth-watering clash in the league.

‘Going into the game on Saturday, both teams are first and second in the league at crucial times – it’s going to be an intense game.

‘Only thing with coronavirus is that fans can’t be in the stadium but hopefully we can get the win and put ourselves back at the top of the table.’

Hasenhuttl praises Werner’s quality

Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhuttl always believed Timo Werner was going to be part of a successful Chelsea team.

Werner got back on the score sheet against Newcastle and the German will be looking to add to his goal tally when he meets his former boss this weekend.

The Saints manager spoke in his press conference about the quality in the Blues side and why Werner will succeed with it.

‘I have always said he has the quality to perform well and score goals,’ the former RB Leipzig coach said.

‘There are still a lot of good players at Chelsea, so many offensive players with quality, but he is always going to be part of a successful team.’

Werner has 10 goals and nine assists in all competitions this season and the Saints manager believes Thomas Tuchel will improve the German even more.

‘Tuchel knows him very well and knows exactly how to handle Werner,’ he added. ‘He scored once, two goals against us but that’s enough I think!’
