Blues want Inter Milan striker

Inter Milan striker Martin Satriano admits he is flattered by Chelsea’s reported interest in him.

The 20-year-old arrived from Nacional in Uruguay and is making a big impression.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, the Uruguayan revealed how transfer links motivate him.

‘The interest from the Premier League is always flattering,’ he said. ‘It is a sign that I’m doing things well and that I have to continue down that path.

‘I try to use it as an incentive to keep working and be better every day.’

The Uruguayan has yet to make his Serie A debut for Inter but has been on the bench for the former Blues boss Antonio Conte.

The 20-year-old has been very impressive for Inter’s Under-19s, netting five goals in his last four appearances. However, amid the rumoured interest, the player wants to focus on his club.

‘The Premier League is the number one league in the world in terms of competition,’ he continued. ‘All the players want to play, and all the teams are very good.

‘It is a very competitive league where any team can beat anyone. But for now, I am focused on Inter and to do the best with them.’

Johnson lists transfer targets

Former Blues defender Glen Johnson believes Chelsea can become title contenders if they sign a striker and a centre-back next season.

Speaking to the Metro, the former England international also listed Erling Haaland as a player who should be a top priority.

‘I think they need a centre-half and they need a striker,’ Johnson said. ‘They spent a lot of money in wide areas and in the midfield.

‘I think a striker is the main thing. Giroud is 34 now so there’s only so much he can do. The same stands at centre half because Thiago Silva is a different class.’

The Blues are currently unbeaten under Thomas Tuchel and are leading our Champions League last-16 tie after beating Atletico Madrid 1-0 in Bucharest. Johnson believes Erling Haaland is the player Chelsea should be looking to sign in the summer to bolster the squad.

‘I think someone like Haaland would be ideal,’ he added. He’s big, he’s quick, he’s powerful and he is unbelievable in front of goal.

‘These sorts of signings give a lift to the rest of the dressing room and it would be a real statement if they could pull it off.’

Cascarino praises Giroud

Former Blues forward Tony Cascarino believes Olivier Giroud is one of the most underrated players in the world.

Speaking in an interview with Talksport, the 58-year-old highlighted Giroud after his performance in our last-16 fixture against Atletico Madrid in the Champions League.

‘I would say he is the best in the world of the most underrated players,’ he said. ‘I was lucky enough to see Giroud as a young man when he was at Montpellier and they won the title.

‘You could always see there was something a little different because he’s not traditionally a centre-forward, but he leads the line brilliantly.’

Giroud’s overhead kick in midweek was his 11th of the season for Chelsea and he is currently the second-highest goal scorer in the Champions League, only Erling Haaland has more. Cascarino continued to hail the Frenchman for the type of goals he has scored in his career.

‘He’ll do things that a number 10 can do. That goal against Atletico is a number 10 goal, it’s a Roberto Baggio type of goal.

‘I’ve seen Giroud do that four or five times in his career.’
