The form

Chelsea go into this match after an outstanding performance mid-week versus Atletico Madrid in the Champions League. The Blues came away with a first-leg win in the round of 16 tie beating the Spanish side 2-0 at Kingsmeadow. Despite a setback early on in the contest following the sending off of Sophie Ingle due to a foul in the box, Chelsea responded superbly with only 10 players. Ann-Katrin Berger saved two penalties, while Maren Mjelde converted from the spot-kick and Fran Kirby steered home her effort beyond form Blues goalkeeper Hedvig Lindahl.

Second from bottom West Ham were last in action on Sunday 10 February and they were beaten 1-0 by Brighton & Hove Albion.

This will be our seventh meeting overall and third this term. We have won six and drawn one with our match being in the Continental Tyres League Cup semi-final in February.

This match resulted in an emphatic 6-0 triumph for the Blues who booked a place in the Conti Cup final which takes place on Sunday 14 March against Bristol City. Hayes’ side hit four goals past West Ham by the break with Pernille Harder netting a brace, with Ingle and Bethany England also getting on the scoresheet. Kirby fired home in the second half and Harder added her third to register her first-ever Chelsea hat-trick.

Chelsea hosted the Hammers at the beginning of December and that game finished in a 3-2 victory in front of our faithful fans for the first time since February 2020. Kerr scored a first hat-trick as a Blue.

Then last season, we beat our opponents comfortably at Kingsmeadow in a match which finished 8-0. Mjelde and England got a brace while Ingle, Erin Cuthbert and former Blues Ramona Bachmann and Emily Murphy added the finishing touches to a relentless performance.

The away league match that year finished 3-1 thanks to Ingle, Ji and Drew Spence’s second-half goals.

We also faced them in the Conti Cup last season and secured a 2-0 win at home with goals from England and Reiten after the break.

The Blues won our first-ever meeting against West Ham at Rush Green when Bachmann notched an outstanding brace and the home fixture ended in a frustrating 1-1 draw. But it was it was a special day as we marked Spence’s 10th year as a Chelsea player.

Next up for the Blues

After tomorrow, Chelsea will head to Monza in Italy to take on Atletico Madrid in our round of 16 Champions League second leg. The match kicks off at 12:30pm (UK) and will be available to watch live on BT Sport. Then, next weekend we take on Bristol City in the Continental League Cup final where we will look to retain the trophy for a second successive season. That game takes place at Watford FC’s Vicarage Road on Sunday 14 March and kicks off at 2:30pm.
