All eyes are on Vicarage Road this weekend, as Chelsea Women prepare to face Bristol City in the Continental Cup final on Sunday afternoon.

Emma Hayes’s side will hope to retain the Conti Cup after winning it for the first time last season against Arsenal, thanks to Bethany England’s late winner at the City Ground.

The Blues have overseen victories against Arsenal, Tottenham, Manchester City and West Ham en route to the final and here we recap our journey so far…

Chelsea 4 – 1 Arsenal

The Blues got our trophy defence off to a flying start by defeating Arsenal at Kingsmeadow, in what was a repeat of last year’s final.

It was a fast start, with Magdalena Eriksson’s header opening the scoring after just five minutes. Arsenal’s Caitlin Foord equalised three minutes later, but Guro Reiten’s quickfire brace put the game way out of Arsenal’s reach.

In the 90th minute, Bethany England sealed the win and reached a big Chelsea milestone as she buried her 50th goal as a Blue.

Chelsea 2 – 0 Tottenham

In our second group match on their road to the final, the Blues faced a strong Tottenham side that kept them out until the 70th minute.

Chances were at a premium in this game and we escaped a scare as Spurs struck the post early on.

However, the Blues dug deep and in the 70th minute, Erin Cuthbert’s strike from distance opened the scoring.

Although Tottenham continued to press, we got the job done from the penalty spot when Sophie Ingle’s shot hit an opponent’s hand in the box.

Melanie Leupolz would ensure the Blues claimed maximum points and progressed to the knockouts when she converted emphatically from the spot.

Manchester City 2-4 Chelsea

In the quarter-final against Manchester City, the Blues showed fighting spirit to come from behind and claim victory in the North-West.

Although Leupolz took advantage of a defensive error to volley us ahead, the Blues were pegged back in the second half when City equalised through Chloe Kelly.

The tie looked to be getting away from Chelsea when City took the lead through Laura Hemp with just 10 minutes remaining, however Niamh Charles came off the bench to fire home a volley and send the game into extra-time.

In extra-time, Chelsea took the lead as Guro Reiten – the creator of Charles’s goal - got on the end of a Pernille Harder cross to hand us the advantage and the Blues then secured our semi-final place when Reiten rolled the ball back to Sophie Ingle who smashed it home to settle the tie.

Chelsea 6 – 0 West Ham

Chelsea’s dominant performance against West Ham highlights why we are many people’s favourites to retain the Continental Cup.

Harder shone and scored her first hat-trick for Chelsea, as the Blues blazed past the Hammers, while Ingle was also on target.

Strikers England and Fran Kirby were also on the scoresheet in the big win and set up Sunday’s final meeting with Bristol City.

This year's final is on Sunday at 2.30pm and it can be watched live on BT Sport.
