Hakim Ziyech and the Moroccan national team followed their qualification for the Africa Cup of Nations with a draw in their match on Friday night, which guarantees them top spot in their group.

One point for Morocco from their final two qualifiers was their initial target, but they qualified anyway ahead of their match against Mauritania when the other two sides in their group drew earlier in the day.Ziyech started but could not add to the three goals he had scored in the previous four matches in the group as Friday’s game ended 0-0. It was a contest of few chances although the Chelsea man came close to unlocking the Mauritania defence on a couple of occasions with passes into the box, and a cross that was headed over in the second half. Morocco later wasted the best chance of the game with a shot wide. The draw was enough to ensure today’s opponents can on longer overtake them into first position when the final qualifiers are played on Tuesday. Morocco host Burundi.Ziyech’s team will be joined at the Africa Cup of Nations tournament by Ghana who qualified on Thursday, with Baba Rahman in their side.

The finals, delayed from this coming summer, will be held in Cameroon in January and February 2022.
