Lukaku tipped with Chelsea return

The Blues are reportedly interested in re-signing Romelu Lukaku.

According to the Telegraph, signing another striker in the summer has become a priority for Chelsea and the Belgian is on the shortlist.

Lukaku signed for the Blues in 2011 as an 18-year-old but struggled to establish himself as a regular at Stamford Bridge and went on loan to West Brom and Everton, signing with the latter in 2014.

At Everton, he found the back of the net 87 times in 166 games and was signed by Manchester United three seasons later.

Since then, the striker has proved himself to be one of the most dangerous forwards in Europe with the Belgium national team and current club, Inter Milan.

He has scored 25 goals this season and given Inter a huge chance to win their first league title in over a decade under former Blues boss Antonio Conte.

US coach hails Pulisic

US coach Gregg Berhalter was full of praise for Christian Pulisic’s man-of-the-match performance against Northern Ireland.

Our No.10 was instrumental going forward and won and scored a penalty for his side’s second in their 2-1 win.

Speaking in his post-match press conference, as reported by goal.com, Berhalter explained his delight in watching the winger perform at his best.

‘What I say about Pulisic is to forget about all the great stuff he does on the ball,’ the US coach said. ‘He just competed today, and, when he’s in that type of mood, he’s just an unbelievable player.

‘That’s what I was most happy with today. The relentless pressing. He just kept going and going, and then he’s so good on the ball, he can unbalance a team.’

Pulisic will be looking to build on his back-to-back man-of-the-match performances for club and country to help the Blues push for the top four, Champions League and the FA Cup.

‘In my opinion, that’s the next level for Pulisic,’ Berhalter added. ‘Just that type of performance all the time. When he does that, the rest speaks for itself.

‘He’s such a creative player and I was impressed with how he handled himself today before, during and after the game.’

Southgate hints at Mount start against Poland

Gareth Southgate has admitted he can’t afford to rotate Mason Mount.

Speaking to the media, as reported by the Daily Mail, the England boss explained how important the Blues midfielder is to his plans after another classy performance for the national team.

‘He is a very good player,’ Southgate said. ‘I was saying this in the autumn.

‘He is an exceptional player, he finds space intelligently, he manipulates the ball very well and he scores goals. I thought his performance was excellent tonight.’

Southgate also confirmed that there was a high chance he would start the 22-year-old against Poland.

‘Absolutely,’ he said. ‘We’ve looked after all the players in the first game. As for his load coming into camp, he didn’t play in midweek in the Champions League.

‘Regardless of that, we are trying to win and qualify for a World Cup and I can’t be constantly thinking about rotating the squad.’
