The form

The Blues return to Kingsmeadow following our huge 3-0 win (5-1 agg) against last year’s finalists Wolfsburg which sent us through to the semi-finals of the Champions League. Goals came from Sam Kerr, Pernille Harder and Fran Kirby, securing the historic win for the team, having lost to Wolfsburg in the tournament three times previously.

Harder opened the scoring with a well-taken penalty after Kerr was brought down in the box. Just minutes later, Kerr fired a low drive past the Wolfsburg goalkeeper to take the Blues 2-0 up going into half time.

Chelsea dominated once more in the second half, with a strong defensive showing helping withstand the pressure from Wolfsburg, denying them any hope of getting back into the tie.

The icing on the cake came from Kirby, who provided a cool finish on 81 minutes to secure a spot in the last four of the competition for the third time in our history. The Blues will face Frauen-Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich in the semi-final.

Just days before the phenomenal performance in Budapest, Chelsea hosted Aston Villa at Kingsmeadow and maintained our spot at the top of the WSL with a 2-0 win, the Blues fifth consecutive league win.

Kerr and Kirby linked up with Kirby picking out Kerr in the box with a pinpoint cross and the Australian rose to the occasion, heading the ball into the top corner to give Hayes’ squad a much-deserved lead.

The duo worked their magic once more in the 57th minute with Kirby providing the assist for Kerr, who hit a first-time shot into the top corner to double the lead and secure the three points and another clean sheet.

Birmingham sit ninth in the league, having drawn two and lost three of their last five games. Birmingham were last in action last Sunday with a 1-1 draw to Bristol City with Birmingham’s Christie Murray getting the equaliser in the 58th minute.

Chelsea Women vs Birmingham City Women recent head-to-head record

Chelsea’s last encounter with Birmingham came early in the season in October with Hayes’ squad recording a 1-0 win away at Sportnation.bet stadium with Fran Kirby’s match-winning header proving to be the difference in the battle of the Blues.

Next up for the Blues

Chelsea’s next test after Birmingham will be against London City Lionesses as the Women’s FA Cup gets back into full swing. The match takes place on Sunday 18 April and has a 2pm (UK) kick-off.
