Having been named UEFA’s man of the match and played the pass for Mason Mount’s opening goal in our 2-0 win against Porto, Jorginho was naturally pleased with the night’s work by him and the team, but he knows nothing has been achieved yet.

Mount’s goal was added to by a late strike from Ben Chilwell and coupled with a clean sheet, it was a good reaction to the big Premier League defeat by West Bromwich Albion at the weekend.‘There were things to look at and learn from that mistake [Saturday’s loss] and for us we know it is important to defend well as a team and not concede a goal,’ said Joringho after the return to winning ways.‘Everyone worked very hard [against Porto] and we left everything on the pitch so the win was deserved by the whole team, including those who helped from the bench.

‘We are all happy with this first result but for the second game we need to stay humble, we don’t need to think that we have the advantage because it would be a big mistake.‘We need to stay calm and focused because it is not easy if we do that mistake, we can be in trouble so we need to stay calm, be humble, work hard again, knowing that Porto is a very good team and we need to respect them.’Jorginho finished by giving his view of Mount’s goal, when he slotted the ball through a tight gap for the England international to swivel and find the net for an outstanding strike. It was the most crucial of the 63 passes Jorginho completed in the game, with a 94 per cent accuracy rate.‘He was in a good position, he turned the right way. I just saw some space and I gave him the right ball for him to control and score.’
