Millie Bright underlined the positives from Chelsea Women’s Champions League semi-final first leg with Bayern Munich, despite falling to a 2-1 defeat.

The Blues responded well to going behind early on and a vital away goal from Melanie Leupolz cancelled out Bayern Munich’s opener from Sydney Lohmann.

Hannah Glas netted in the second half to give the home side a 2-1 first leg victory but Blues defender Bright insists Chelsea can build on the fact that we still remain in the tie.

Bright said: ‘By our standards, conceding those types of goals, it’s not good enough from us.

‘It’s still only half-time and we’ve got to remain calm, confident and Bayern have got to come to our home ground and play us there.

‘There is lots of positives to take and we must build on that performance. We created a lot of chances, we just didn’t finish those chances and put them in the back of the net.

‘It was a pretty even game, they could have gone and got another goal, but we could have scored another as well.

‘We had some great passages of play and there is lots to build on, but defensively we never want to concede. We are better than those goals that we did concede, but it’s only half-time.’

Our German opponents now have to face the Blues at Kingsmeadow in Sunday’s return leg and Bright believes home comforts can help Chelsea clinch a place in the final.

She added: ‘We have a week and a little bit longer to recover and get things right for the home leg.

‘They’ve got to come to our ground now and anyone that comes to Kingsmeadow will find it difficult.

‘It’s our home ground, our pitch, our home, it’s going to be a big game and we will leave everything out on the pitch.’
