Kerr netted a brace in our 2-0 victory against Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday to take her tally to 20 goals in the league this season and help Chelsea go two points clear of second-placed Manchester City.

The Blues striker is two goals ahead of Arsenal’s Vivianne Miedema in the WSL top scorers’ standings with one game to go but Kerr is hungry for team glory rather than individual honours.

She said: ‘20 goals is good, but my job is to help this team win titles so the win today, and the goals, help us do that.

‘The most important thing is that we retain this title and win on Sunday.’

Chelsea had to wait until the 41st minute to break the deadlock in our clash with Spurs before Kerr scored her second of the game seven minutes into the second half and the striker believes the timing of the goals were crucial.

She added: ‘It was a relief to get the first goal. There is a lot on these games and so for us that was a big goal.

‘Emma said at half-time, "let’s get one early." As strikers, me and Beth wanted to get one early, settle the nerves and I think that goal did. From then on, I thought we really controlled the game. ‘

Kerr’s goals on Wednesday meant the Blues go into our final league game of the season against Reading on Sunday needing a victory to seal back-to-back league titles and the striker says Chelsea are ready to seize the opportunity.

‘You're thinking about retaining the title but at the end of the day, it’s another game for us,’ said Kerr. ‘We have to stay focused and this team is really good at that. We’ve showed how strong we are mentally throughout the whole season.

‘We’ll go to Kingsmeadow, we play well at home and we’ll be ready for the challenge.’
