The form

On Wednesday, Emma Hayes’ side took a crucial three points at the penultimate game of the season against Tottenham Hotspur with a 2-0 win to maintain top spot in the league.

The Blues dominated proceedings at The Hive Stadium with a goal in each half from Sam Kerr. Guro Reiten crossed into the box for Kerr to tap home the first at the back post and take a 1-0 lead. Just seven minutes into the second half, Chelsea doubled our advantage with Reiten once again combining with Kerr, sending over a cross which Kerr directed towards the goal and was saved by Spurs goalkeeper Rebecca Spencer, but Kerr persevered and slotted the rebound into the net.

Kerr goes into the final match as the top scorer in the WSL this season with 20 goals, two more than Arsenal’s Vivianne Miedema. If Kerr remains top of the board, she will clinch the WSL’s Golden Boot award.

Reading sit sixth in the league, having only lost two of their last nine away games in the WSL, although those two losses have been within their last three away games. They most recently took a 3-2 win at home against Brighton and Hove Albion, just under a week ago, and prior to that drew away to Birmingham.

After a slow start, Reading put on a strong display against Brighton with goals from Danielle Carter and Natasha Harding and a penalty from former Blue Fara Williams in the final home game of her career. It’s fitting she will be heading to Kingsmeadow to play her last ever WSL match, as she retires at the end of the season.

All eyes will now be on Sunday's match as the two teams go head-to-head to end the season on a high.

Chelsea v Reading recent head-to-head record

Chelsea have never lost in the nine times we have faced Reading in the WSL, having won seven and drawn two. The Blues have won each of the last four league matches between the two sides.

Next up for the Blues

The next stop for Chelsea Women will be the eagerly anticipated Champions League final in Gothenburg on Sunday 16 May, with an 8pm (UK) kick-off.
