Chelsea Women go into this afternoon’s clash with Reading needing a win to secure the Barclays Women’s Super League and captain Magda Eriksson believes the Blues have showed in many moments this season that the team can thrive under pressure.

The Blues are two points clear of second placed Manchester City heading into the final day of the league campaign and three points against Reading at Kingsmeadow this afternoon will see Eriksson and her team-mates crowned champions.

Throughout 2020/21 season, Chelsea have shown character and resilience to be in with a chance of winning the WSL title and the Champions League, and Eriksson says the high standards demanded from Emma Hayes has allowed the Blues to be fully prepared for high-pressured situations like today.

Eriksson said: ‘What Emma brings is she is not afraid to say what our ambitions are and she’s very clear with what the goals are.

‘In that way, she makes us learn how to deal with the pressure. She makes us used to having the pressure so whenever the moments come when it’s a pressured game, it’s not that big of a deal for us because we deal with that pressure every day.

‘The mentality that we have within the team is one of our greatest attributes. Collectively as a team, we’ve been through highs and lows through the season, tough moments in games and we’ve managed to find results, and someone always steps up and is the game changer for us.

‘The mentality in the squad is definitely a huge strength for us.’

Chelsea are within touching distance of becoming the first side since 2014 to retain the WSL title and Eriksson urged her team-mates to put in one last push and end an impressive league campaign on a high.

‘Last season we won but we it didn’t feel like we won it the proper way. That has been the goal this season, to win it properly, play all the games and come out as the winner at the end.

‘We’ve put ourselves in a great position and now it’s all about finishing what we started.’

Today’s game against Reading kicks-off at 2.30pm and is available to watch live on BT Sport.
