Sam McClelland has today been selected to represent Northern Ireland in friendlies against Malta and Ukraine.

The 19-year-old has played for his country at Under-17 and Under-19 level, as well as being involved with the Under-21s, and has now received a first call-up to the senior squad by boss Ian Baraclough.

After 11 Premier League 2 appearances for the Blues this term, the Coleraine-born teenager will head to the Worthersee Stadium in Kalgenfurt, Austria, to take on Malta. Kick-off on Monday 31 May is 5pm UK time. They then travel to Kyiv to play against Ukraine on Thursday 3 June, kick-off is 7pm UK time.

Elsewhere in the Academy, after netting a hat-trick on his Under-21 debut, Thierno Ballo has again been called up to represent Austria next month. The first of their two home games is against Solvakia on Friday 4 June. They then take on Estonia’s Under-21s four days later in a European Under-21 Championship qualifier. Both games kick off at 6.10pm UK time.

Forward Bryan Fiabema joins up with Norway’s Under-18s for two games against Portugal on 5 and 8 June, while Jimi Tauriainen and Aleksi Heino will travel back to their native Finland for a training camp.

Joe Haigh, Harvey Vale, Charlie Webster and Jude Soonsup-Bell are currently with the England Under-19 squad for a training camp in preparation for the 2022 Under-19 European Championship tournament which will be held in Slovakia.
