Chelsea eyeing Lukaku

The Blues have received a boost in their reported interest in re-signing Romelu Lukaku.

According to Sky Sports, the immediate departure of Antonio Conte from Inter Milan could allow Chelsea the opportunity to sign the Belgian international.

The former Blues manager was told he will have to cut the club’s transfer budget after winning the Serie A title for the first time in a decade, prompting the Italian to terminate his contract.

Lukaku took to social media to say thanks to his former boss for the work he has done to help him.

‘In 2014 we spoke for the first time, and we have had a bond ever since,’ he said.

‘You came at the right time and changed me as a player and made me even stronger mentally and more importantly, we won together.’

The report states that Blues boss Thomas Tuchel is known to be a fan of the 28-year-old and is interested in bringing him to Stamford Bridge to further boost our attack.

Chelsea signed Lukaku as an 18-year-old, letting the attacker gain first-team minutes at West Bromwich Albion and later Everton.

Lukaku has scored 30 goals and provided 10 assists in all competitions this season as he prepares for the Euros with Belgium.

Newton praises Mount

Eddie Newton has praised Mason Mount for his mentality ahead of our Champions League final against Manchester City on Saturday.

In an interview with The Athletic, the former Blues assistant coach also compared the 22-year-old midfielder to Kevin De Bruyne.

‘You know who reminds me of De Bruyne? Mount,’ Newton said. ‘He’s not as blunt as him but Mount has this steely belief in himself.

‘He is a driven young man. He goes about things in a slightly different way. He smiles and everyone thinks he’s just a lovely kid, but that guy has an edge to him when he needs it. He couldn’t get to this level if he didn’t.’

The England international was named Chelsea Player of the Year and also selected for the Three Lions’ provisional squad for Euro 2020 after another impressive season.

‘I knew this kid had a future,’ Newton continued. ‘What a lot of people don’t understand is that having talent is one thing, but if you don’t have the mentality and drive, it can only take you so far.’
