Mount: We're the best team in the world!

A delighted Mason Mount revelled in Chelsea being crowned kings of Europe by dubbing it the stuff of dreams...

The boyhood Blue played a key role in our victory against Manchester City, claiming the assist for Kai Havertz's decisive goal. Alongside his customary work-rate and attacking threat, it capped another impressive performance on the biggest of stages for the 22-year-old.

Afterwards, the midfielder reflected on an astonishing achievement and the team's standing among the greats.

'I can’t put it into words, it’s impossible,' he said. 'I played in two finals for Chelsea and we’ve lost them both in the FA Cup and the way that hurt after the game.

'I've dreamt as a kid of going all the way, making the final and winning it, lifting the trophy. That’s what I’m all about and what this club’s all about. I know it inside and out, I’ve been there as a kid and now to go all the way in the Champions League, with some tough games against top teams, it’s such a special occasion.

'At this moment in time, we’re the best team in the world and you can’t take that away from us!'

Mount was one of three Academy graduates to feature in the final and he paid tribute to the pathway that has helped him flourish, as well as the support of his family over so many years.

'It’s not just the players, we’ve got staff here too,' he added. 'Joe Edwards has come through and loads of staff have come through alongside us players. What it means to us is unbelievable.

'My dad has just come down from the stands and I burst into tears seeing him. It’s a long journey to get to this moment here so to my family I thank them for everything, they’ve given me everything and now these are the rewards.'
