Kai Havertz fulfilled a childhood dream by scoring the winning goal in a Champions League final last night and the German was quick to pay tribute to those that have helped him on this path.

Havertz netted the only goal of the game in Porto as the Blues defeated Manchester City to win the Champions League for the second time in our history.

The former Bayer Leverkusen man had never scored in the competition before, so he certainly picked the right time to open his account and the German was asked whether that was a good way of paying back the transfer fee used to acquire his services.

‘I don't care about that [price tag], we’ve just won the Champions League!’ Havertz said after the final.

‘I don't know what to say. I've waited 15 years for this moment and now it's here and it’s so special. It’s such an incredible feeling.

‘Right now I want to thank my family, my parents, my siblings, my grandmother and my girlfriend. I don't know what to say, I’m so happy and now is the time for us all to celebrate.’

Midway through the interview, Kai was joined by skipper Cesar Azpilucueta who had nothing but praise for our matchwinner and highlighted the strong mentality he has.

‘Kai’s had a tough season but he’s got a tough mentality and this guy is going to be a superstar,’ explained Azpilicueta.

‘He is already and he’s given us the Champions League. He ran like crazy for the team and that’s why he deserves this.

‘We are all a team at Chelsea and Kai is a big part of that. He deserves this success because he has been amazing for us.’
