Blues linked to Saul

Chelsea are reportedly interested in midfielder Saul Niguez.

According to Marca, and as reported in The Sun, the Blues have joined the race to try to sign the Spanish international in our efforts to improve our squad.

The 26-year-old has been tipped with a move away from Atletico Madrid after they were crowned the champions of Spain in a tight title race this season.

The Spaniard has appeared 41 times in all competitions for Diego Simeone’s side and has scored twice and picked up one assist.

If Chelsea are to lure Saul to Stamford Bridge, we have to fight off interest from the other elite European clubs like our Champions League final opponents Manchester City.

Holland praises Blues legends

Former Chelsea assistant coach Steve Holland has praised Chelsea legends for creating the DNA for success at Cobham.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, Holland, who is now working with England, has linked our recent success to stars like Didier Drogba and John Terry.

‘The top players Drogba, Terry, Ashely Cole, Frank Lampard and Petr Cech were driven every day,’ he said. ‘They had talent but also made the maximum out of it.

‘As they became experienced, they would push the rest of the group.’

Holland was part of the coaching staff at Chelsea from 2009 until 2017. He was also part of the coaching staff that won our most recent Premier League title.

‘At Chelsea, Conte changed to a back three and brought in Victor Moses and Marcos Alonso from the cold,’ he added. ‘I had Cesc Fabregas, Terry and Branislav Ivanovic sitting behind me.

‘It was relentless and stressful, but it did create success. It’s a strange culture and environment to explain, you just couldn’t accept not winning.’

Mourinho praises Mount

Former Chelsea head coach Jose Mourinho has praised Blues midfielder Mason Mount and the progress he has made in the Blues side.

Speaking to The Times, the Portuguese manager also credited Frank Lampard for developing the 22-year-old and giving him ‘incredible conditions’ to be successful.

‘I have to be honest,’ Mourinho said. ‘I watched him two seasons ago in his first Premier League match against Chelsea at Old Trafford.

‘I put a question mark over how long this boy would need to develop and become a complete player, it didn’t take long.’

In two seasons, Mount has already surpassed 100 appearances for the Blues and has become one of the first names on the team sheet for the England national team.

Mourinho also believes a lot of credit should go to our former manager and all-time leading goal scorer Lampard.

‘I believe he is an attack-minded player, a creative player, but he has the tactical discipline. He is a team player,’ the current Roma head coach added. ‘We see him now with Thomas Tuchel coming from the sides, when he was with Frank Lampard, he was more of a number 10.

‘When they play with a back five he can be the third attacking player or the third midfielder.’
