Blues linked with Haaland

Chelsea are reportedly preparing a bid for Borussia Dortmund’s Erling Haaland.

According to the Daily Mail, the Blues are edging closer to bringing the 20-year-old striker to Stamford Bridge.

The report suggests Haaland expects a move to the Blues this summer after another successful season in Germany. He was instrumental in Dortmund’s third-place finish and qualification for Champions League football. The Norwegian is one of the most sought-after players in Europe having scored 41 goals in 41 games in the season just gone.

Dortmund have stated they do not want to sell the player, however the report states the Blues are working behind the scenes to get the striker but if they do make a move for Haaland, they will be faced with competition from both Manchester clubs and Real Madrid.

‘Haaland is coming from Borussia Dortmund and expects to be joining Chelsea before the new season begins,’ states the report.

Capello hails Jorginho

Former England manager Fabio Capello has admitted he was wrong about Blues midfielder Jorginho.

Speaking to Corriere Dello Sport, Capello said the 29-year-old is an important part of the Italian national team after a series of impressive performances.

‘Jorginho, he’s Mancini’s main man,’ Capello said about the Chelsea midfielder. ‘He was a player who didn’t convince me completely. But in matches I saw him live, I watched carefully.’

Jorginho has put on a passing masterclass at Euro 2020, gaining plaudits from all over Europe. His Italian side are getting ready to face Belgium on Friday in the quarter-finals.

‘He is a midfielder who knows how to stay on the field and direct the team,’ Capello added.

‘The fact that Italy don’t concede many goals is due to his ability to intervene at the right time in the actions of the opponents.’

Redknapp urges Southgate to start Mount

Former England midfielder Jamie Redknapp believes Mason Mount should start in England’s Euro 2020 quarter-final against Ukraine.

Speaking on Sky Sports, the pundit believes Gareth Southgate should start a different type of players in the next fixture.

‘Against Ukraine, we might have to play in a slightly different way,’ Redknapp said. ‘They looked tired after the Sweden win which went to extra-time, so it feels to me that we’re going to have to play more attacking players.

‘Mount might be the first port of call.’

The 22-year-old midfielder has been a crucial player for the England manager. Since his England debut, the Chelsea Player of the Year has played most games when available for selection.

‘Southgate is going to have to manage his team well,’ Redknapp continued. ‘We’ve got fresh players, unlike other teams which bodes well.

‘I think Mount will certainly start and I would love for Jack Grealish to play.’
