Jorginho has commented on speculation that he could be in with a shout of being named this year’s winner of the coveted Ballon d’Or prize.

The midfielder has had an incredible season for both club and country, playing a key role as Chelsea lifted the Champions League and Italy won Euro 2020.

Many people have argued the case for the Brazilian-born Italy international to be among the contenders for the Ballon d’Or and our No.5 has had his say on his chances.

‘We all have dreams,’ said Jorginho. ‘But, I'll be honest, it depends on the criteria that the decision is based on.

‘If we're talking about talent then I know I'm not the best in the world. But if it's going on titles, then nobody has won more than I have this season!

‘How could I compare myself to [Lionel] Messi, Neymar or Cristiano Ronaldo? They've got completely different characteristics to me. But, I repeat, it depends on the criteria.’

The Italian has had a wonderful season for both club and country and Jorginho has reflected on his incredible past few weeks, lifting both the Champions League and the European Championships.

‘It is hard to describe because it’s something that was so far away for me,’ said the midfielder, on lifting silverware.

‘It was a really big dream for me and it is such a good feeling to achieve these dreams.

‘It’s been a very good season. We did so much as a team, it was a good season for everyone involved.

‘The manager Thomas Tuchel understands my characteristics and he told me what he wants me to do. I try my best for the team every game.

‘Now I can’t wait to have fans back next season because it was weird playing without them. We want them back supporting the team and I can’t wait to see them again.’
