Chelsea travel to Ireland

Pre-season training moved from Cobham to County Kildare today as the preparations for the 2021/22 campaign reached a new stage.

Participation in big summer international tournaments means a significant number of Thomas Tuchel’s squad are still enjoying well-deserved breaks, but those who have been back at the club for pre-season took a flight this Tuesday lunchtime to Dublin for a week of further training a little outside of the Republic of Ireland’s capital city.

As for the previous week, which included a 6-1 training ground match win against Peterborough, the current party is primarily a mix of some of the squad which ended the last campaign being crowned European champions and players who have returned from being on loan in 2020/21.

In common with back at base in Surrey, it was sunny weather that greeted Tuchel, his players and his staff and they will be quickly down to work with a training session planned for later in the day. There are plenty more to follow. We will be reporting here on the activity in what is the boss’s first pre-season in charge at Chelsea.

Yesterday, ticket details were announced for a pre-season game away at Bournemouth which takes place next Tuesday evening.

That will be followed by our two London derby matches in the Mind Series, away at Arsenal and at home to Tottenham. At the match at Stamford Bridge, the Champions League trophy will be paraded for the first time since the glorious night in Porto back in May.
