Cascarino trusts Blues to make a big signing

Former Chelsea forward Tony Cascarino believes the Blues are lining up a big transfer ahead of the new Premier League season.

Speaking on TalkSport, Cascarino thinks after our Champions League triumph in May, Thomas Tuchel will continue to further strengthen his squad.

‘Chelsea have earned a lot of money over the last year,’ Cascarino said. ‘From the Champions League and the selling of Hazard.

‘I cannot believe they aren’t going to break the bank to get someone like Haaland. They are going to do a big transfer in my opinion.’

The TalkSport radio host believes the Norwegian is the ideal candidate to bring to Stamford Bridge as the Blues look forward to taking the next step under Thomas Tuchel.

‘They are going to do a transfer and I think it will be Haaland,’ he continued. ‘Chelsea are going to offer big money for somebody, and I suspect it will be him.’

Merson previews Blues start to the Premier League

Arsenal legend Paul Merson believes Chelsea will push for the title if they can win their first six games.

Writing in his column in the Daily Star, the football pundit believes our tough first fixtures will set the tone for the rest of the season.

‘Chelsea won the Champions League and are fancied to push for the title,’ he said. ‘But look at Chelsea’s fixtures and you can see what they are up against.’

The Blues will start their 2021/22 Premier League campaign against Crystal Palace under their new manager Patrick Vieira which will be followed by an exciting run of fixtures.

‘They have to play Arsenal and Liverpool before the end of August and then it’s Aston Villa, Tottenham and Manchester City,’ he added.

‘If they get off to a good start they will be majorly fancied for the title.’

Mainz youth director praises Tuchel

Blues boss Thomas Tuchel has been hailed by the Mainz youth director after he was voted as the German coach of the year.

Tuchel spent five seasons as Mainz manager after 12 months as a youth coach at the club.

Speaking to Kicker, Volker Kersting praised the former Paris Saint-Germain boss after his fantastic year which included winning the Champions League with the Blues.

‘For me, Tuchel is one of the warmest people ever,’ he said. ‘The fact that he is always described as cool and distant from the outside is a completely wrong perception.

‘Perhaps because he has many things that are packaged more soberly and objectively than others.’

The German arrived at Chelsea  in January when we were ninth in the Premier League. In four months, the Blues climbed up to fourth, clinching Champions League qualification.

Since Tuchel took over, our side conceded 13 goals in the second half of the Premier League season, six fewer than Premier League champions Manchester City.
