All eleven Chelsea players representing their countries at this summer’s Toyko Olympics have progressed to the quarter-finals.

Australia, Canada, Great Britain, Netherlands and Sweden have all booked their place in the last eight, with fixtures to take place on Friday.

Sweden had already secured qualification to the knockout stages, but victory today guaranteed top spot in Group G.

The meeting between Canada and Team GB ended in a draw which means Team GB take top position in Group E, with Canada coming second.

Australia’s scoreless draw with the USA meant they secured a best-placed third spot, while the Netherlands beat China to finish top of Group F.

USA 0 Australia 0

Having suffered defeat in their previous game against Sweden, Sam Kerr and the Matildas needed a victory to secure second spot in group G ahead of their opponents USA.

USA found the net in the first half but fortunately for Australia, Alex Morgan’s header was ruled out for offside.

Neither side managed to break the deadlock which meant it was USA who held on to second place, but Australia have claimed the best-placed third spot so they too qualify for the knockout stages.

Kerr will face some familiar faces when she and the Matildas take on Team GB in the quarter-finals on Friday.

New Zealand 0 Sweden 2

Magda Eriksson was named captain for today’s final group stage clash with New Zealand, and she lined up in defence alongside Blues team-mate Jonna Andersson.

Going into the game, Sweden had already confirmed their place in the quarter-finals and they got off to the perfect start with two goals in the opening half an hour.

The two early goals were enough to secure victory and cement Sweden’s place at the top of their group. Sweden will now take on hosts Japan on Friday.

Canada 1 Great Britain 1

Millie Bright and Sophie Ingle both started today’s clash against Canada, with Ingle named as captain. Fran Kirby, who missed Team GB’s last two fixtures due to injury, took her place on the bench.

Both Carly Telford and Niamh Charles were not included in the Team GB matchday squad, while Jessie Fleming was named amongst the substitutes for Canada, but the midfielder entered the action at half-time with the game goalless.

Ten minutes into the second half and Fleming’s Canada broke the deadlock to give them the advantage and put them top of the group.

Still 1-0 down, Kirby came on for her first appearance at the tournament, replacing fellow Blue Ingle.

With five minutes to go Caroline Weir netted an equaliser for Team GB to secure top spot in Group E.

Great Britain will face Kerr’s Australia, while Canada will take on Brazil in the last eight on Friday.

Netherlands 8 China 2

New Blues defender Aniek Nouwen started for the Netherlands, lining up in central defence to face China.

Her side took an early lead on 11 minutes, but the Netherlands found themselves level just before the half-hour mark. Two goals in the final 10 minutes of the first half gave the Netherlands a 3-1 lead going into the break.

With just over 15 minutes to play, the Netherlands were sitting comfortably at 7-2 and Nouwen was withdrawn from the action. The game ended 8-2 and Nouwen’s side will now face the USA in the quarter-finals.
