Parlour backs Terry for Championship job

Ray Parlour believes John Terry can be a successful manager as the former Blues captain is reportedly linked with jobs in the Championship.

Speaking on TalkSport, the former Arsenal midfielder thinks Terry could be a success in the Championship after spending three seasons at Aston Villa as Dean Smith’s assistant coach.

‘It would have to be somewhere with ambition,’ Parlour said about Terry’s next destination. ‘You’ve got to be backed from the board.

‘It needs to be a club that wants to go forward, wants to build and an owner to say, “we’ll back you”.’

Terry is reportedly planning to take a break to study other coaching styles before thinking about his next position.

‘Sometimes it doesn’t work for managers,’ Parlour added. ‘But if it does then John Terry, with all his experience and medals he’s won during his career, it could be brilliant.’

Villarreal suffer injury blow

According to Football Espana, Villarreal were dealt with a big blow after their pre-season friendly against Levante.

With two weeks before our Super Cup match against the Yellow Submarine, the Spanish side have had their preparations disrupted.

In their goalless draw against Levante, pictures emerged from the game showing their midfield talisman Dani Parejo being stretched off.

The Spaniard was an important piece to Unai Emery’s side as they finished seventh in La Liga and won the Europa League on penalties against Manchester United last season.

Villarreal will now have to wait for scans to find out if Parejo will be fit enough to face us in the Super Cup.

The Blues will face Villarreal on 11 August in Belfast after their two fixtures against Arsenal and Tottenham in the Mind Series.

Vivell discusses Blues’ Haaland chase

RB Leipzig technical director Christopher Vivell believes Chelsea would not be making a mistake if we went all out for Erling Haaland.

Speaking to SportBILD, Vivell earmarked the Borussia Dortmund striker as a player that will dominate football for the next 10 to 12 years.

‘When I look at the market and see who I would spend that much money on,’ Vivell said. ‘He would probably be one of the two.

‘If you can secure him now and pay that much for him, you are not making a mistake because he’s still so young.’

The 21-year-old scored 41 goals in 41 games for his club last season. According to reports, Thomas Tuchel is interested in further strengthening his attack and Vivell believes the Norwegian could have the same impact as Cristiano Ronaldo.

‘On top of that, you have him under contract for five years and Haaland is already guaranteed something then,’ he added.

‘If he stays injury-free, he can dominate the next 10 to 12 years like Cristiano Ronaldo.'
