In our look at the latest Chelsea-related news stories from the media, the Blues are reportedly still interested in Declan Rice and Olivier Giroud hails Hakim Ziyech’s left foot.

Blues eyeing Rice

According to the Telegraph, Chelsea are expected to be patient over the signing of West Ham midfielder Declan Rice.

The England international has returned to training after his European Championship break and reports state that he is still yet to sign a new deal with the London club.

The midfielder has three more years left on his contract and wants to be kept informed about any bids for him. Rice reportedly remains a top target for the Blues and Manchester United.

‘West Ham’s valuation of Rice has so far put off Chelsea and Man United from making an official bid this summer,’ the report states. ‘The two clubs are well aware that the price will have to drop in 12 months.’

Rice was impressive at Euro 2020 and was a pivotal player that helped England reach the final. Playing in the Europa League this year with West Ham will further ready the 22-year-old for the next step if the Blues make a move.

Giroud praises Ziyech

Former Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud has opened up about how impressive Hakim Ziyech is as a player.

Speaking to the Italian media, the French striker was asked about his thoughts on the Moroccan since his move from Ajax.

‘Ziyech is a great player,’ he said. ‘We had a great connection even though we have only played a few times together.’

The 28-year-old has been outstanding for Thomas Tuchel in pre-season, scoreing five goals in four games for the Blues so far.

In our return to Stamford Bridge last night, the attacker scored twice against Tottenham in a 2-2 draw in The Mind Series.

‘He has a top left foot,’ Giroud added. ‘He has the experience, and he is very good technically.

‘It would be nice to play with him again,’

Hutchinson signs a new deal

According to Yorkshire Live, former Chelsea youth player Sam Hutchinson has signed a new deal with Sheffield Wednesday.

Hutchinson joined the Chelsea Academy at nine years old and made his senior debut in 2007 as an 18-year-old. He earned caps for England Under-18s and Under-19s.

However, after having to retire at 21 due to a recurring knee injury in 2010, Hutchinson has been able to revive his career and become an established Football League player. Sheffield Wednesday boss Darren Moore has also praised the former Blue for his versatility.

‘You’ll see Hutchinson play at centre-back for us this season and you’ll see him play in the midfield,’ Moore said. ‘You’ll see him playing both.’

‘He has a wonderful versatility in him that means he can play in both positions and the beautiful thing for Hutchinson is that he is so comfortable in them.’

Hutchinson appeared 22 times for the Owls last season and triggered an automatic one-year contract extension.
