Hakim Ziyech continued his impressive pre-season form with a goal in either half against Tottenham at Stamford Bridge last night, and afterwards the Moroccan reflected on a productive night’s work a week away from the start of our competitive campaign.
Ziyech fired us in front with a deadly accurate strike from outside the box a quarter-of-an-hour in, and then doubled our advantage early in the second half after good work from Marcos Alonso.
Having come close to scoring at both Bournemouth and Arsenal, the winger was pleased to make his mark in front of the Blues fans.
‘The second goal was a good combination and ended up in the net, and the first one I think they lost it and Timo made a good run and made space for me to shoot, so they were two good goals,’ said Ziyech.
‘It was a nice evening, from the beginning I enjoyed it, and I showed also in the performance that I was enjoying it.’
With the Blues much changed in the second half, Tottenham fought back from two goals down to earn a draw in our second Mind Series fixture. Ziyech noted the absence of N’Golo Kante, whose brilliant tackle set him on the way to scoring the opener, as he assessed our overall performance.
‘With everything in the first half what we did was good,’ noted the 28-year-old.
‘That is something we can look up for and try to get the same level during the whole 90 minutes, I think that was our biggest problem.
‘When you have NG behind you, you know always he’s clearing everything that’s behind you and he’s covering all the problems that we have at the back so if he doesn’t play you’re straight feeling it.’
