The Chelsea Foundation recently hosted an all-female football tournament with an aim to increase female participation and encourage more females to play competitively.

Taking place at Westway Sports Centre in west London, five teams made up of females aged 13 to 18-years-old took part in the competition.

One group of players were from our Kicks programme, while the rest of the participants were invited by the Chelsea Foundation.

The tournament followed a round-robin format with each team playing each other twice before two play-offs to confirm the finishing places of the teams.

The day ended with all participants entering a raffle where prizes included Chelsea training wear, Nike trainers and Nike and Nando’s vouchers. Participants were also gifted items from club partner, Nike.

Chelsea Foundation female engagement coordinator Tyra Mills said: ‘It was amazing to host the tournament and all the girls loved taking part in the competition.

‘I was extremely pleased with all the females who took part, so a big thank you to all the females who came out of the comfort zone and took part!’

Kicks participant Fatima attended the event and the 17-year-old added: ‘Even though I didn’t take part in the football, Tyra allowed me to take photographs and still be a part of the event which was amazing. I was able to come out of my comfort zone and still be a part of it.’
