Reece James and Mason Mount have been named in the first England squad of the season ahead of upcoming World Cup qualifiers.

The duo were heavily involved in last weekend’s Chelsea victory at Arsenal, with Mount teeing up James to score our second goal at the Emirates. Earlier in the first half, James had acted as provider for Romelu Lukaku to open his account for the Blues.

Mount has featured in all three of our opening games this term, coming off the bench in the UEFA Super Cup against Villarreal before starting Premier League matches against Crystal Palace and the Gunners. James, meanwhile, played the final quarter of our 3-0 win over the Eagles before his scoring start in north London.

Both were involved in Gareth Southgate’s squad at the Euro 2020 finals this summer as England reached the final before a heart-breaking penalty shootout defeat to Italy at Wembley. James played 90 minutes in the group stage against Scotland, while Mount clocked up five appearances in total.

The Three Lions continue their bid to reach the 2022 World Cup in Qatar with qualifiers against Hungary, Andorra and Poland at the start of next month. They currently top Group I with three wins from three and only one goal conceded.
