Tiemoue Bakayoko will spend this season back in Serie A after joining AC Milan on a two-year loan.

The midfielder returns to the San Siro for a second spell with Milan until 2023, having previously represented the club during the 2018/19 campaign, and knows the league well after also spending last season at Napoli.In Italy, Bakayoko will be a team-mate of former Blues Fikayo Tomori and Olivier Giroud, who both joined the Rossoneri permanently this summer, and will compete in the Champions League after Stefano Pioli’s side finished in second place last season, being drawn in the same group as Liverpool.During his previous spell at Milan, Bakayoko was a regular in Gennaro Gattuso’s side as they reached the Coppa Italia semi-finals, and reached the same stage under the same manager at Napoli in 2020/21, following a year back in France with Monaco.

Born in Paris, Bakayoko came through the Rennes academy in the north-west of France and made his senior debut in August 2013, a week after his 19th birthday. He signed for Monaco the following summer and featured in almost 100 games for the principality side during his three seasons there before joining the Blues, scoring five goals.In 2016/17 he starred as they unexpectedly beat Paris St-Germain to the title and also reached the last four of the Champions League, knocking out Manchester City and Borussia Dortmund en route. Bakayoko scored the decisive goal in a thrilling two-legged tie against the Premier League side.

The Frenchman joined Chelsea in the summer of 2017 and made 43 appearances for the Blues that season, scoring three goals. He played the full game as we beat Manchester United in the FA Cup final at Wembley.
