Chelsea Women legend, Katie Chapman recently attended the Chelsea Foundation’s Changemakers launch event at Stamford Bridge.

Changemakers is a new Premier League programme which will form part of the Foundation’s Education and Community’s core delivery framework.

The programme is targeted at females aged between 11 to 16-year-olds and focuses on wellbeing, self and identity, leadership and empowerment and social action projects.

As part of our Women’s Equality Day 2021 celebrations, the Chelsea Foundation launched the programme by hosting a youth voice educational workshop at the Bridge.

Chapman joined 15 young women for a 90-minute workshop which focused on discussions including female role models, core building blocks for wellbeing, the power of social media and how to be a positive media influencer.

Former Chelsea and England midfielder Chapman also shared stories about beginning her football career as a teenager, winning major trophies on the pitch and detailing her experiences later in her career, before taking part in a Q&A where the young women were able to ask questions.

Speaking after the event, Chapman said: ‘It was great to be a part of the programme launch. If one of them has taken something positive away from the session then I would have been happy so to receive such positive reactions is amazing.

‘Hopefully my story resonates with the young women and will motivate them to succeed.’

Chelsea Foundation education officer, Alfie Butwell, added: ‘The power of football allows us to bring a variety of different participants together.

‘Providing a new female-targeted programme will ensure we are supporting young women on and off the pitch and providing the correct support network as they embark on their journey of adolescents to become the next generation of role models.’
