Blues monitoring Kessie

Chelsea are reportedly eyeing AC Milan midfielder Franck Kessie.

According to Sports Witness, the Blues would be prepared to make a move for the 24-year-old next summer.

Kessie has proven himself to be a key player for Milan since his move from Atalanta in 2017. After the departures of key players like Hakan Calhanoglu and Gianluigi Donnarumma, the Rossoneri are reportedly keen to keep him.

‘His performances have not gone unnoticed around Europe, particularly as his contract is set to expire in June next year,’ the report stated.

‘That’s led to reports that several sides are keeping a close eye on the situation and are willing to offer the midfielder an increase in wages to move on a free transfer next summer.’

If the Blues are to sign Kessie they will also have to fight off Paris Saint-Germain who have sent ‘sensational offers’ to the player.

Terry lauds Lukaku signing

Former Chelsea captain John Terry believes Romelu Lukaku was a key missing player from the Blues squad last season.

Speaking to Sky Sports, the former Aston Villa assistant coach believes the Blues can challenge Manchester City for the title this season.

‘I think they’re looking good, he’s the one big one missing,’ Terry said. ‘I know they won the Champions League last season but probably just missed out on the Premier League because of that.

‘I think bringing him in kind of gives that. He’s shown that already.’

The Belgian forward scored on his debut against Arsenal and will be looking to get back on the score sheet when the full squad returns from the international break this week.

‘He’s got something to prove at Chelsea too,’ Terry added. ‘I know him and he’s very determined to do well.

‘Chelsea are looking great at the minute, and I think they can give Manchester City a push.’

Southgate backs Hudson-Odoi

England boss Gareth Southgate insists Callum Hudson-Odoi is still in his England plans.

Speaking in the Evening Standard, Southgate believes the 20-year-old can still further develop in the Under-21 national team.

‘I think Hudson-Odoi was in the team at the time at Chelsea when we felt he was pushing for a place in our squad.

‘The club form often dictates some of those opportunities and he had a really bad injury.’

The winger stayed with the remaining Chelsea squad at Cobham instead of going away with the Under-21s to get sharper during this international break.

‘It’s always difficult for a young player when you’ve been with the seniors and then you’re not with the seniors to make that climb back,’ Southgate added. ‘That’s the challenge for him.’
