Chelsea in numbers

This will be the ninth consecutive season we have played our opening Champions League fixture at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea have only lost one of our past 17 Champions League group games at Stamford Bridge (winning 10) – Valencia in 2019/20.

Chelsea have won 10 and lost only one of our last 17 Champions League group games at Stamford Bridge.

In our last two games against Liverpool and Aston Villa, Edouard Mendy made six saves in each, his most in any other appearance since joining Chelsea in all competitions. He is now up to 28 clean sheets in his Blues career.

Possible milestones

If selected to make his 50th appearance for Chelsea in the Champions League, Azpilicueta will be the ninth Blues players to reach that milestone in the competition behind John Terry (109), Frank Lampard (102), Petr Cech (94), Didier Drogba (74), Ashley Cole (60), John Mikel Obi (59), Branislav Ivanovic (58) and Joe Cole (51)

Against Aston Villa, Callum Hudson-Odoi made his 100th and Kai Havertz his 50th appearance for the club in all competitions.

Zenit stats

Last season Russian Premier League - Champions (third year in succession)Russian Cup - Round of 16Russian Super Cup - WinnersChampions League - Group stageTop scorer all competitions - Artem Dzyuba (22)

This is Zenit’s ninth Champions League group campaign and a third in succession; they have never progressed further than the round of 16.

They have finished fourth in their group in each of the last two seasons.

Zenit are unbeaten in any competition since March, a run of 17 games including 12 wins.

Zenit have lost all of their three major European games on English soil to Liverpool, Everton and Bolton.

They have not played an English club since beating Liverpool on away goals in the 2012/13 Europa League round of 32.

The St Petersburg side have lost 11 of their last 15 Champions League games, winning two. They haven’t won any of their last seven matches in the competition.

In only 18 Champions League starts for Zenit, Artem Dzyuba has been directly involved in 13 goals (nine goals, four assists). Zenit haven’t won a Champions League match without Dzyuba finding the net since September 2015.

Dzyuba has scored nine goals for Zenit in the Champions League, one fewer than the club’s top-scoring player in the competition (Hulk, 10).

Sergei Semak, Zenit's 45-year-old head coach, has never faced Chelsea before from the dugout although he has played against us for CSKA Moscow in both of our Champions League group games in 2004.
